A message from Mish …

Hi Orsinos and Tempests! We’re going to be working on ‘Start a Fire’ from the film La La Land. Although it’s from a musical film, it’s still a very ‘poppy’ song. I’ve recorded the backing vocals so you can sing the lead along with that. There is also an instrumental after the second chorus, so it would be really great if you could try your own riff or ad-lib in that section. Please send your videos back to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the WeTransfer link below.

Hello Orsinos and Tempests, This week our objective is 'Finding Your Voice'. In singing, it’s important to discover your own voice and style. In order to begin doing this, I would like you to choose a song and adapt it to suit a different style or genre. This can be a style/genre you like to sing already or one you’d like to try out. They don’t all have to be serious, have fun with it! Before you choose your song, I want to make sure you are warmed up ready to sing efficiently. Please watch my video for some ideas as well as adding your own favourites. Once you have warmed up, it's time for the main activity. Please follow one of the three options:

Option 1: Learn the song I have chosen and finish it off in your own style.

Option 2: Choose your own song, find an acoustic backing track and make it your own.

Option 3: Choose a song and adapt it to fit another genre/style. You can sing a capella or find a backing track on YouTube. There are also lots of ideas our there to give you inspiration.  Enjoy the lesson and don't forget to upload your videos to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the WeTransfer link below.

A message from Leanne …

Hey Orsinos & Tempests! I’m really excited for this lesson as this is something I’ve wanted to do for ages! We are going to be creating a virtual choir! I have created an arrangement to ‘Stand By Me’ which is such a poignant song at the moment for so many reasons. I think it will be really lovely for us all to come together to sing this. I have set 3 harmony lines, low, mid & high - so please pick a line that is comfortable for you. I’d like to ask 2 things of you this week - 1. Please send your video through in landscape and 2. Please record with headphones in so you can hear the track to keep in time but the camera doesn’t pick it up. That way, I’ll be able to edit them together easier. Please send your videos to nicci@arielct.co.uk in your Ariel uniform, using the WeTransfer link below by next Friday 3rd July. I’m really excited for this to come together.

Hello Orsinos and Tempests! This week our objective is to improve our vocal agility. Vocal agility is the ability to move smoothly and quickly from one note to another. In this process, you’ll land on the exact note without sliding up or down to get to it. Vocal agility is needed for a variety of different styles/genres: pop, musical theatre, classical, RnB and many more. In order to help you improve your vocal agility skills, I have provided you with some practise exercises and techniques. Please work through the video and accompanying exercises and then select a song in which good vocal agility is needed. Apply the techniques to sections of the song that need work and then send in a video to nicci@arielct.co.uk for feedback. It would be greatly beneficial if you also send in an explanation of what you have worked on. I hope you enjoy the lesson and I look forward to seeing what you've come up with.

Hello Orsinos & Tempests! For today’s lesson, we are going to be combining the skills you’ve been working on in your acting through song lessons and the soul songs you did with Kyle a few weeks ago. I’m looking to see you put your own stamp on this track, which is ‘Over & Over Again’ by Nathan Sykes, whilst really acting through the lyrics - seeing a clear connection to the song. I have provided various backing tracks so please pick one that sits comfortably in your range.

Please send your videos back to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the WeTransfer link below. Don’t forget to wear your Aril uniform.

Hi Orsinos and Tempests! I’m really happy to be bringing you your singing lesson today. Our objective today is to focus on combining our acting and singing - ‘acting through song.’ I know you’ve done a couple of lessons on this but this is still a great time to keep honing your skills. In my video, I’ve shared some of the tips and tricks that I find really useful and I’ve included a selection of tracks for you to try. Please work on the one you feel the strongest connection to and that suits your voice. I really can’t wait to see your videos so please get your videos, in your Ariel uniform, back to nicci@arielct.co.uk, using the WeTransfer link below.

Hey Orsinos & Tempests! I thought it would be really valuable to go through some technique work with you and how you guys can work on those belt and longer sustained notes. Please follow the warm up and then let’s get started!

This week’s song is ‘Never Enough’ from ‘The Greatest Showman’ as it allows us to really work on those big notes. During my video, I will be giving you some tips and tricks for tackling this song so I really look forward to seeing your performances this week. Get your Ariel uniforms on and send your videos to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the WeTransfer link below.

A message from Kyle …

Hello everyone! We’ll be working through 2 things today - 1.) is a vocal exercise (you will need a bottle of water and a straw for this) and 2.) is our task - where we will be focusing on artistry through the power of soul music - oh yeah, that’s right! All will be revealed in my video but what I would like you to think about during today’s task is bringing your individuality into singing. There are two songs to choose from - Stand By Me and Natural Woman - both of which provide a great base for you to develop your own style. Experiment with finding your ‘own sound’ and send your videos to nicci@arielct.co.uk in your Ariel uniform, using the WeTransfer link.

Singing - Erin

Hello Orsinos and Tempests! This week we will be working on singing and dancing at the same time. Beth and I have collaborated on this piece so please learn the singing in this session and then move to Beth's dance session to learn the corresponding choreography.

If you watch my intro video, I have provided you with some tips in how to improve your skills in singing and dancing at the same time. Please watch this before learning the song in order to get the most out of this lesson.

The song you are learning this week is 'I See Fire' by Ed Sheeran. I would like you to all sing the lead section and then choose either the tune or one of the harmonies to sing for the rest of the song. Please make sure you play the track with the other parts on it when you record your video so we can hear how they all fit together.

I strongly encourage you to practise both disciplines together but if you would prefer to record the singing and dance in separate videos, that would be absolutely fine. We would still like to see what you've been up to.

Get your Ariel uniforms on, and send your videos to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the WeTransfer link.

Lost boy Full version

Singing -

A message from Marisha …

Hello Orsinos and Tempests. This week, I have set the song ‘Lost Boy’ by the artist Ruth B. This is a pop song and the main objective for this lesson is to focus on your tone. As this song is softer in style, this gives you a really good opportunity to think about your dynamics and control. I would also like you to think about the meaning behind the song - the lyrics are beautiful and respond to the story of Peter Pan and touches on themes such as loneliness, friendship and the power of imagination. If there is a song that is speaking to you lyrically at the moment that you would like to record and send over instead, please feel free to do so. Please get your Ariel uniforms on and send your videos to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the link below.
