Hi there Ariels & Prosperos! We are going to be thinking about emotions, specifically emotions on a scale (1-5 going from lowest to highest, increasing and decreasing emotions.) I’d like you to think of a character from a fairytale and write a monologue for them which takes place a year after the main story has ended. How has the fairytale affected the character? I would like you to use the emotion scale (1-5 and back to 1 again) within your monologue, all whilst remaining in your fairytale character. I really look forward to seeing your videos so please send them over to nicci@arielct.co.uk in your Ariel uniform, using the WeTransfer link below.

Hello Ariels & Prosperos! Today we will be looking at using music to create and enhance character. I have given you 3 different examples but please feel free to select your own music for your characters. During my lesson, listen to how the music sounds and how this can be applied to your physicality, facial expression, your walk and your posture. I’m really looking forward to seeing how you get on with this so please remember to you get your Ariel uniforms on send your videos back to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the WeTransfer link below.

Hi Ariels & Prosperos! For your drama lesson today, we are going to be doing some animal studies! The aim of today’s lesson is to perform a short monologue where we will have taken an animal and turned that animal into a human. We will be examining your chosen animals traits, gestures, physicalisation and applying this to a given speech. I have provided you with a monologue but please feel free to use another speech, poem or exert from a book if you feel more comfortable with that. Please follow my video and get your Ariel uniforms on and send your videos to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the WeTransfer link below.

Hello Ariels and Prosperos! I’m excited to bring you your drama lesson this week. Today, you guys are going to become news reporters using lots of different props and costumes. You are going to be the news reporter as well as being the witnesses and people the reporter talks to. You can create your own news story - whatever you want to do! But I’d really like you to think about how you are going to create these different characters - voice, physicality and gesture.

Have fun with this guys! So get your Ariel uniforms on and send your videos back to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the WeTransfer link below. We can’t wait to hear your news reports!

A message from Liam …

Hi Ariels and Prosperos! For those of you that have been taught by me, you will know how much I enjoy working with puppetry. So today, I thought it would be fun to do a puppetry workshop!

I’m going to let you in to a little secret here … anything can be a puppet. I have explained all in my video, where I explore the ways in which we can bring objects to life. All you need for my lesson today is you imagination and an object. Once you’ve had a bit of time exploring your object, we’re going to have a little bit of fun. Using Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling,’ we are going to make our very own music video of singing and dancing puppets! So get your Ariel uniforms on and send your puppet videos to nicci@arielct.co.uk

Hello Ariels & Prosperos! Today we are going to be looking at characterisation.

During isolation, I have been watching a lot of silly Facebook, Youtube and TikTok videos and I’ve realised that I enjoy the videos where people have created alternate personas and larger than life characters - this has inspired my lesson today.

What I would like you guys to do is create your own ‘internet' characters by filming your opening video for your ‘Youtube Channel’ and send it over to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the WeTransfer link below (we’re not asking you to actually post it on Youtube!) Be bold, add humour and really push the boundaries when creating your characters.

I’m excited to see what you guys create!

A message from Beth …

Hello lovely Ariels & Prosperos! For this week, I would like you to have a go at ‘Guess The Song Challenge.’ For this, you will need to pick the verse and chorus of a song and deliver it like a monologue - I am not asking you to sing! Think about a song that you can connect to lyrically, something that tells a story and allows you to deliver a clear and strong performance. Now, here is the challenge … I don’t want you to tell me what song you’re performing. I need to guess the song. So think about how you can make this slightly trickier for me - add in pauses, experiment with the rhythm of the text.

Please get your Ariel uniforms on and send your videos over to nicci@arielct.co.uk, using the WeTransfer link below. I can’t wait to see your performances and to guess the song!

Hello Ariels and Prosperos! Today I would like us to think about the art of subtlety and how subtlety in drama can often give us a bigger picture of what is going on, for example we might learn how a character feels about another character without either of them openly saying it. So your task for this week, is to pretend you’re at a wedding and you have been asked to deliver a speech about the bride, but the truth is, your character doesn’t like her. So without openly saying that, I would like you to use the art of subtlety to convey how you feel about her. Please keep your speech under 2 minutes and in your Ariel uniform, please send your videos to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the link below. Really looking forward to your seeing your speeches!
