A message from Kyle …

Hello Orsinos and Tempests. What I’m going to ask you to do today is think about the art of subtlety and how this can be used in performance to give our audience a wider understanding of the relationships between the characters on stage.

For today’s task, I would like you to write a monologue, imaging you are on a date with someone who is incredibly clingy and this monologue is letting them down gently. Throughout your monologue, you need to give subtle hints as to why you are breaking up with them, without ever telling them your true feelings. Keep your monologues to under 2 minutes please and send them over to nicci@arielct.co.uk in your Ariel uniform. I’m really looking forward to your break-up monologues!

A message from Nicci …

Hello Orsinos & Tempests. It’s so lovely to connect with you today!

My lesson is on the importance of words. How messages can be communicated - whether physically or verbally - and often most effectively with music. Now sometimes, when the music is so powerful, we can lose the message of the song. Before you think of the words lyrically, think of them as poetry and you’ll be surprised by the message. When you take away the rhythm of the song, it becomes a story and therefore a monologue. What I’d like you to do is take a song and strip it back, take it back to the story and message. If you want to take it to the next level, once you’ve said it to me, then record yourself singing it to me. Enjoy this task and make the most of connecting to material at a new level.

Please send your videos, in your Ariel uniform, over to me at nicci@arielct.co.uk using the WeTransfer link below. Really looking forward to your videos!

Hi there Orsinos and Tempests. Today, we are going to be delving into how we can build suspense in performance - that magic thing that keeps your audience in the palm of your hand and on the edge of their seats. In my video I have given you some tools and tips on how to do this. Your task is to find a monologue or poem and using what I discuss in my lesson, I would like you to add suspense to it - thinking about pace, pause and your volume.

Get your Ariel uniforms on and send your videos to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the link below. I really can’t wait to see your work.

Hello Orsinos and Tempests. Today we’re going to be focusing on a little bit of creative writing, especially creative script writing. The great thing about creative writing is that there are no boundaries. First up, I’d like you to think about what atmosphere you are trying to convey - mystery, comedic?

The setting will take place in a room with 2 characters and one of those characters is going to ask the other one to move out. How will that character react? What is their relationship? All of this is down to you. Please keep it under 2 minutes long and we’d like you to record your scene in your uniform and send it over to nicci@arielct.co.uk

Let your imaginations run wild!

A message from Adam … Hi Orsinos & Tempests!

This week we will be building a tool kit for approaching any new song or monologue. We will be looking closely at the text and its content. I have included a step-by-step guide because we are covering a lot today and I would like you to have something to refer back to in future.

I would like you to do two videos, 1.) your first take on the song/monologue and 2.) after you have worked on the text. This is for you to see the changes and progression you have made - you’ll be amazed with the changes! Please wear your Ariel uniform and send your videos to nicci@arielct.co.uk. We really look forward to seeing your work and I hope you enjoy this process and take these skills forward.

Hello Orsinos and Tempests! We will be diving into some theory work today, focusing on ‘successful actions in order to be believed.’

I have included two sample monologues so you can put what I’m talking about into practise. If you’d rather use a monologue of your own choice, please feel free to work on that instead.

In your Ariel uniform, please record your monologues and send them to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the link below.

Hello Orsinos and Tempests! What we’re going to be looking at today is ‘Taking Direction.’ This may seem like a simple task but you’d be surprised how difficult it can be to work out exactly what a Director is asking of you. There is a link to a monologue below and I’d like you to perform it in 3 different ways -

1.) How you feel it should be performed.

2.) As if the character is incredibly angry

3.) As if you’re finding everything you’re saying very funny

Some of this direction may not feel like the right mood for the scene, however this task is not so much about the feeling but is about performing it how you have been asked.

Have a go in your Ariel uniform and please send back your performances to nicci@arielct.co.uk using the link below.

Hi everyone! Today, we’re going to be talking about accents and dialects. This is a really broad subject, so for today, we’re going to focus on regional accents from the British Isles. As we go through, I’ll give you some tips and tricks to master these accents.

Please take the phrases listed throughout the tutorial and record yourself working on them, then why not try a longer piece of text using your most successful accent (a poem, monologue, a section from a short story) and send that into nicci@arielct.co.uk We’re excited to hear your new voices!

A message from Neil..

We are going to have some fun with a speech that is attributed to Shakespeare  even though he did not write the whole play this speech appears in, This shows us his humanity and also relates to the recent refugee plights even though it was written over 400 years ago.

Have a listen to me and then take two paragraphs to work on, think about what is being said, also how (as a character) you want to say it, use pauses, inflections to bring the text to life. Think about your environment and make this part of the feel of the piece, also make it real. But have fun.

Enjoy Neil

We are talking about Monologues! We have given you a choice of 2 monologues - the first monologue is from ‘Our Day Out’ by Willy Russell and the other is ‘Billy Liar.’ Please don’t worry if the character is male or female - choose the monologue you gravitate to the most. I would like you to think about your character’s intention - what is the reason they’re saying this dialogue, think of your environment and your emotional journey.

Have a read, learn and upload your performance and we will get back to you some feedback.
